After the user installs and powers up a 2900 switch, they must use the out-of-bandconsole connection to minimally configure the switch with an IP address andsubnet mask before they can use a networked (in-band or out-of-band) connectionto manage the switch. To connect a console to the switch, use the console cable shipped with theswitch and connect a PC or VT-100 terminal to the console serial port. The PCor terminal then functions as a management console connected directly to theswitch. The user can use the console port only for out-of-band management; it cannot beused for a Telnet connection.
